Welcome to our Governors’ section!
Our governing body is a Local Governing Board (LGB) of the Minerva Learning Trust. Please find below details of how our LGB is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each governor. Serving as a governor is very rewarding role and the Chair of Governors would be happy to speak to anyone who is interested in joining the LGB.
Kate Batorska, Headteacher - Ex Officio
As Headteacher I hold an ex-officio position on the LGB. I moved to West Dorset from Somerset in 2001 and have lived in Bridport since then with my husband and son. I have been a teacher for nineteen years, working across a range of year groups and have been both Deputy Head and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator). In 2012 I completed a Master’s Degree in Early Mathematical Intervention. This fuelled my passion for pursuing the very best teaching and learning approaches that help our children develop a love of learning and a belief that they can achieve the very best.
Martin Warne, Chair of Governors - (1.4.16 to 31.3.20)
I became a Community Governor in 2010 and served on the Partnership sub- committee as well as the Full Governing Body and am a Link Governor to the Reception Class. I am now a Co-opted Governor, appointed by the Local Governing Board. This is my second time serving at the school having originally been a governor in the early 90’s when my children were pupils. Latterly I worked for Dorset Children's Services and was a social worker by profession. I have always had a close affinity to this school and have thoroughly enjoyed working here again.
Revd. Pete Stone Joint Vice Chair of Governors (6.12.18 - 5.12.22)
I am a Foundation Governor, appointed by the Diocese of Salisbury. It is a privilege to work with and support St Mary’s. The pupils are always welcoming and keen to ask questions and help one another. I am the Team Vicar for Bridport and a Member of the Minverva Learning Trust. I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dyspraxia at 38 and this experience and that of supporting a child with dyspraxia makes me passionate for every child to be given access to education that engages them and helps them to develop confidence and abilities that will be life enhancing, so that every child may be all that they can be. I am an Army Reserve Padre and have enjoyed linking the school and regiment.
Michelle Sage - Joint Vice Chair of Governors (2.11.17 to 1.11.21)
I am a Co-opted Governor, appointed by the Local Governing Board. I am linked to the current Year 2 class and I have enjoyed getting to know them and the school. I am serving on the resources committee.
I used to be a teacher before becoming a mum and moving to Dorset! I now work on a caravan park but wanted to remain connected to the education system and offer support where I can.
Brian Shelley - (1.4.16 to 31.3.20)
I retired to Bridport in 2006 to be closer to my grandchildren and to enjoy the delights of the Jurassic Coast. Before that I was the Headteacher of a Special School for 20 years. I have been Clerk to Governors at St Mary’s for 3 years before becoming a Community Governor in 2012. I am now a Co-opted Governor, appointed by the Local Governing Board. I wanted to continue my association with the school because I believe that it does as wonderful job in giving all its pupils opportunities to learn and be creative.
Alan Moss - (1.4.16 to 31.3.20)
I am a Co-opted Governor, appointed by the Local Governing Board. Over the years I have worked at Local Authority level in Dorset and further afield. I am a Trustee of the Minverva Learning Trust.
Clive Faircloth – (18.6.18 to 17.6.22)
I am a Foundation Governor, appointed by the Diocese of Salisbury. A lifetime’s experience in education for me involved teaching RE and English in Kent and in Dorset. Within that experience has been over thirty years of pastoral work in mixed comprehensive schools and, having been both Deputy Head and Co-Headteacher of what became an Outstanding school, retirement beckoned. Now I remain active in working in education including working as a governor, pursue a variety of leisure pursuits and the fortunes and misfortunes of Fulham Football Club.
Rosslyn Westall - (1.4.16 to 31.3.20)
I am a Foundation Governor, appointed by the Diocese of Salisbury. I enjoy using my skills and passion to engage and enthuse the children.
Chris Wellman-Herold - (1.4.16 to 31.3.20)
I am a Foundation Governor, appointed by the Diocese of Salisbury. I am a volunteer with Fire and Rescue and a church warden. Reading is a great pleasure for me and I enjoy sharing stories with the children.
Hannah Morini (10.7.19 to 9.7.23)
I am a Staff Governor, elected by the staff to serve on the LGB.
Sally Walton - (28.11.18 to 27.11.22)
I am an Associate Member, appointed by the Local Governing Board. My husband and I moved to West Dorset in 2014 and I would now like to give back to the community. I have enjoyed reading with Year 5 at a local school and look forward to the opportunity at St Mary's where hopefully my more analytical side and business experience can be of assistance.
Natalie Green – Clerk to Governors
I have worked as an independent Clerk to Governors since 2013 for 7 different schools in total, giving me a wide range of experience. I currently service four other local schools including the LGB at Bridport Primary School in the Minerva Learning Trust. Before moving to Dorset I worked in the Adult Learning sector as a training manager. I also work as a freelance adult educator and event manager.
