Welcome to Year 6!
Welcome to Year 6. Our teachers are Mr Houston, Mrs Poole, Mrs Jessopp, Mrs Brown and Mrs Hurford. As the oldest (and wisest!) class we are given a lot of freedom and responsibilities within the school. We work hard, enjoy learning together with our peers and have bucket loads of character!
It has been a busy half term for year 6. SATS has been our main focus for a few weeks as our teachers have helped us to feel prepared and (hopefully) more confident when taking the tests. Every morning we had breakfast together, flicked through our revision guides and then said a prayer for each other to help us feel calm. We completed 6 tests (and 6 different breakfasts) and feel really proud of ourselves.
At the end of the week the Year 6 team put on a special party for us. We had a lovely morning of playing, drawing and chatting with our friends. At lunchtime we all brought something to share and ate together. Then we spent the afternoon all together on a giant bouncy castle and then with more inflatables in the swimming pool.
We have really enjoyed going to the Leisure Centre for our gymnastics sessions. Paul and the other coaches are really encouraging and many of us are trying new things, overcoming fears and improving our skills and stamina.
In Science we have been investigating evolution. One of our experiments looked at how birds beaks have adapted to suit their environment and diet. We had to use a range of different "beaks" to collect food items in just 30 seconds - some of us need to practise our chopstick skills!
Finally many of us have enjoyed the opportunity to teach our peers about subjects that interest us. Here is a picture of Miss M teaching us some science.
