Evacuee Day 2023
On Wednesday 20th of September, we went to school dressed as evacuees.
We tasted vegetable soup with plain rolls and drank tea – cheers!
We looked at videos and images of children being evacuated and listened to their stories. We discussed the emotions that we might have felt; leaving our parents and homes and being sent far away to different towns and villages. We then evacuated ourselves.
We were put into groups and sent to different locations with different teachers. Using Atlas’, we found the places we would have been sent to on maps. Then, we wrote letters to our parents as evacuee children and sent these to our parent’s addresses to see how this would make them feel.
We also discussed the personal items we brought and why they were special to us.
To finish the day, we created a gas mask to keep us safe during the blitz.
